Kemer: a resort under mountains, not a second Antalya
Pine slopes, a pebble beach, and a town that exists to serve the hotels. Excellent if you wanted a pool, a boat day, and the Taurus as a backdrop. A poor substitute for Kaleiçi.

What Kemer actually is
Kemer is a Mediterranean resort under the Taurus: pine, a pebble beach, a marina, and a chain of large hotels running toward Antalya and toward Tekirova. The mountains are why the photographs look dramatic. The hotels are why you are here. That is not an insult. It is the product.
The town centre is walkable, with a promenade and enough independent restaurants to leave the all-inclusive wristband behind for a night. It is still a resort town. If you wanted a harbour that still unloads fish at dawn as its main personality, look at Kaş or Fethiye, not at a strip designed around airport transfers.
Town, Göynük, Beldibi, Çamyuva
- Kemer town
- Marina, shops, walkable evenings. Best if you want a centre, not only a compound.
- Göynük / Beldibi
- Closer to Antalya, big beach hotels, convenient, less of a town. Fine for a pool week.
- Çamyuva / Tekirova
- South, greener, quieter, more shuttle-dependent. Phaselis is nearer.
Search the village, not “Antalya coast.” Kemer hotels mix three-star town blocks with serious all-inclusive campuses. The star rating will not tell you whether you can walk to dinner. The map will.
Families who want sand and a kids’ club often do better in Belek. People who want a Roman theatre at sunset do better in Side or Kaleiçi. Kemer is for clear pebble water and a mountain backdrop, on a board basis you chose on purpose.
Boat days and the rest
The standard week is: swim, boat trip along the coast (coves, a ruin, a lunch you will forget), maybe a jeep safari you will also forget, one day in Antalya if you have the energy. Phaselis — Roman harbour ruins on three small bays — is the outing that is actually worth the transfer. Go early, swim off the same beach as the stones, leave before the midday coaches.
Tahtalı and the Olympos Teleferik are the mountain version: a cable car, a view, a temperature drop. Worth it in clear weather. Pointless in cloud. Check before you buy.
Organised trips from the hotel desk are convenient and marked up. Compare a south-coast day trip if you want Phaselis or Antalya with a pickup, then spend the other days not on a bus.
Kemer vs Antalya vs Belek
Antalya is a city with a harbour and a beach. Belek is golf and sand east of the airport. Kemer is west, under the mountains, pebble, pine. They share AYT and a lot of brochure language. They do not share a neighbourhood.
If the holiday is “Turkey, all-inclusive, first time, want a bit of culture,” Antalya (Kaleiçi plus a beach hotel) or Side is the more interesting week. If the holiday is “pool, mountain, boat, do not make me think,” Kemer is honest.
Getting there
Antalya Airport is about an hour. Transfers are the norm; see Antalya airport transfers. Do not assume a “Kemer hotel” is close to Kaleiçi — you will not pop into the old town for breakfast.
May to October is the swimming season. July and August are hot and full. Shoulder months are the version where the mountains look like the poster and the promenade is walkable.
Common questions
Is Kemer worth visiting?
Yes as a beach-and-pool holiday with mountains behind the hotels. The town has a marina, a promenade, and enough restaurants for an evening out. It is not worth it if you wanted Kaleiçi, Aspendos, and a city. Those are Antalya, about an hour away.
Is Kemer sandy?
Most of the main beaches are pebble, with clear water and borrowed sand in places. If a long sandy shelf is the requirement, look at Lara, Belek or Side’s east strip instead of being surprised on arrival.
Kemer or Antalya?
Kemer for a resort week under the Taurus, boat trips, and a quieter night than Lara’s biggest blocks. Antalya for an old town, a museum, and Roman day trips. They share an airport. They are different holidays.
Which part of Kemer should I stay in?
Kemer town if you want to walk to the marina. Göynük and Beldibi for large beach hotels closer to Antalya. Çamyuva and Tekirova further south, greener, more of a shuttle to town. Read the village on the listing — ‘Kemer’ is a district.
Can I visit Phaselis or Antalya from Kemer?
Phaselis is a short hop and the better ruin-and-swim combination. Antalya is an hour; do it as a day if Kaleiçi is on the list, not as a commute for dinner.
