Where to stay in Kaş: in town, or you will taxi every night
The town is steep. A five-minute walk on a listing can be a hundred steps with luggage. Book a room you can walk to dinner from unless the villa was the point of the trip.

The one rule
If you came for the town, sleep in the town. Kaş is harbour, steep streets, and evenings that are the point of the stay. The Kaş guide covers Kekova and the swimming. This page is the walk-versus-view decision that quietly ruins a week when people get it wrong.
Kaş town
Book around the harbour square, the western side, and the streets that do not start with a staircase in the listing photos. Stone boutique hotels and small family places are the local stock. Large resorts are not. You want to walk to dinner, walk back, and walk to the boat in the morning.
Noise exists: scooters, a bar, a mosque. It is a town. A room over the main taxi rank is a different stay from a room two lanes up. Kaş hotels should be pinned on the harbour, then sorted by recent rating, not by a pool the size of a postcard.
The hill and Çukurbağ
Immediately above town, the views get better and the walk gets worse. Fine if you like a climb and a quieter night. Poor if you imagined wandering between restaurants in sandals.
Çukurbağ, out on the peninsula, is villas, small hotels, pools, and a drive. Stay there if the room and the horizon are the holiday, and dinner in town is a planned outing. Stay there with a car. Without one, every swim platform and every meal is a negotiation.
Not Kalkan
Booking.com will offer you Kalkan. It is a different town, twenty-five minutes west, steeper, more villa, excellent rooftops. If that is what you wanted, go to the Kalkan guide on purpose. If you wanted Kaş, filter the map until Kalkan disappears.
Kaputaş is a beach between them, not a place to sleep. Patara is a sand-and-ruins day, not a Kaş suburb.
How to book it
Zoom to the harbour. Read every review that mentions stairs, parking, and “further than it looks.” May–June and September sell the good town rooms first. If you are driving the coast, this is a car hire stretch — useful for Kaputaş, unnecessary for a harbour-only weekend.
Common questions
Where is the best area to stay in Kaş?
In town, within a realistic walk of the harbour, if evenings and Kekova boats are the point. On the Çukurbağ peninsula if you want a pool, a view, and you are happy to drive or taxi for dinner. The hill immediately above town is a compromise that only works if you like stairs.
Is Kaş too hilly for a hotel without a car?
The centre is walkable if you book the flatter streets around the harbour and the western side. Many ‘five-minute walks’ are vertical. If anyone in the group struggles with steps, read reviews that mention the walk with luggage, not just the breakfast.
Should I stay in Kaş or Kalkan?
Kaş for a town, cheaper dinners, diving, Kekova. Kalkan for rooftop restaurants and a more polished, villa-heavy stay. They are twenty-five minutes apart. Do not split three nights between them.
Are there beach hotels in Kaş?
Not in the Lara sense. Town is platforms, pebble coves, and a small municipal beach. Hotels with decent pools exist on the peninsula. If a long sandy beach outside the room is the requirement, Kaş is the wrong town — look at Patara as a day, or stay elsewhere.
How far in advance should I book Kaş?
For May, June, September and early October, the well-placed town rooms go first — often two months out, longer for the smallest boutiques. July and August are hotter and still busy. Winter is quiet and partly shut.
